"The Spirit of John Coltrane"
Its been 50 years since the death of arguably the greatest jazz saxophonist of all time, John Coltrane. Whilst deeply rooted in the bebop language, he helped pioneer modal jazz in the late 1950’s, he also paved the way for harmonic thinkers (having his own chord progression named after him) with his challenging and bold Giant Steps and by the 60’s he was off the scale with his spiritual approach to music and his transcendental jazz. If anyone can take on the mammoth task of playing the music of Coltrane it has to be Gilad; with his big personality, mighty projection and his regular band.
